In 2016, after completing a Certificate III in Floristry with Pearsons School and inspired by her creative passion for all things floral, ‘Lauren Alyce Floral Design’ was born. Lauren is now a freelance floral designer based in Blue Bay on the New South Wales Central Coast and with already a stellar portfolio of work to date, we cannot wait to see where the rest of 2017 takes her! Here is her story below:
Company: Lauren Alyce Floral Design
Florist: Lauren Wallington
What initially attracted you to floristry?
What really made me decide to pursue my love of flowers was after my own wedding in 2015, my florist delivered my wedding bouquet and I just fell in love with everything she created- I kept thinking “I want to do that for a job!”
What did you love about studying the ‘SFL30115 Certificate III in Floristry’ with Pearsons School?
The best thing about the course was that you could really go at your own pace; it fit in perfectly around my work schedule and my lifestyle. The workload was not too overwhelming and the teachers and facilities were just amazing- I loved every minute and was actually a little sad when it all came to an end.
How did ‘Lauren Alyce Floral Design’ all begin?
I had a few friends approach me to do their wedding flowers while I was still studying at Pearsons, so decided to make it official and start up my own little business name with cards and social media page. It just snow balled from there.
What is your flower crush?
I would have to say Ranunculus are my all-time flower crush. I just can’t get enough of them and their stunning fluffy petals!
To our budding florists and floral enthusiasts, do you have any care tips you’ve picked up along the way to share?
Invest in a flower fridge! I picked up a second hand one from a local café and can’t imagine life without it. Especially during the summer months is so important to keep those more delicate blooms cool and fresh.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to get in to floristry?
Put yourself out there! Before I even began my course with Pearsons I got a casual job at a beautiful little florist near my home and I just fell in love with floristry. I contacted some of my favourite florists through social media and offered to help with weddings and events as work experience – I learnt so much that way.
What does the future hold for you and your business?
I see LAFD eventually moving to a bigger studio space and maybe one day with a little shop front here on the Central Coast. It really is the best job in the world, I love being a part of a client’s wedding day as much as delivering a bunch of blooms to a doorstep and just making someone’s day!
