Pearsons wins at the 2016 industry awards
We are so excited to share the news that recent Pearsons graduate Sammy Bate has won “NSW Floristry Student of The Year”. This was awarded by the Flower Growers Group of NSW and sponsored by the Department of Education and Training. Pearsons School of Floristry were also awarded “Floristry School of the Year”.
Sammy represented Pearsons School of Floristry (PSF) in the NSW Flower Growers Student Scholarship Competition, alongside fellow SFL30115 Certificate III in Floristry students Alicia Jones (3rd place) and Renee Cross (5th runner up). The competition had three participants from each floristry college and was held on Wednesday 31st August at the Sydney Flower Markets.
Bright and early the competing Certificate III students were given a ‘Surprise Box’ with a design brief. The box contained all floral materials they could use, and they had one hour to create their floral arrangement. The judging panel included Floral Sculptor Tracey Deep, Jamie Buckley from Neat Floral and Saskia Havekes from Grandiflora. The competition winner was announced on Saturday 17th September at the 2016 Flower Growers Ball held at Dockside, Darling Harbour. Presenting the awards NSW Industry Minister, Anthony Roberts and Senator the Honourable Anne Ruston.
Barbara Pollak Founder of the Pearsons School of Floristry was proud of all the students’ performance but thrilled with Sammy’s result. “This is such an amazingly supportive industry and I am so proud of the student’s results”.
