Behind Misu Roses: Sue’s Leap from Spreadsheets for Stems

Sue’s life has transformed beautifully since completing her floristry course at Pearsons School. What began as a creative hobby soon blossomed into a deep passion for flowers, design, and the artistry of floristry. Today, Sue proudly owns Misu Roses in Concord West. We got the chance to find out more about Sue's floral journey and had to share it with you!

A Creative Calling That Started Early

Sue’s path to floristry was anything but traditional. She completed her Advanced Diploma of Accounting in 2009 and spent twelve years (2009–2021) working in the accounting field. While her work was stable and structured, she always felt drawn toward creativity.

Her love of flowers began in her teenage years in Vietnam, where she created floral gifts for teachers on Vietnam’s Teacher’s Day, November 20th. Even then, arranging flowers brought her joy and peace.

In 2022, she decided to follow that spark of creativity and enrolled at Pearsons School, studying the Certificate III in Floristry. What began as a hobby quickly grew into a profound passion. Sue wanted not just to arrange flowers, but to elevate their beauty, and that desire drove her to seek extensive real-world experience in the industry.

The Pearsons Influence

Sue’s connection to Pearsons began in 2021 when she received a beautifully arranged Easter bouquet from Pearsons Florist. She was captivated by the freshness, colour, and artistry of the design. It inspired her to explore floristry courses, and Pearsons School instantly felt like the right place to begin her creative journey.

Inspired Learning & Supportive Mentors

Studying the SFL30115 Certificate III in Floristry at Pearsons was a transformative experience for Sue. She felt especially inspired by one of her trainers, Lee Cavender, whose passion for design, colour, and technique shaped Sue’s understanding of floristry. She also formed strong friendships with fellow students who shared her enthusiasm and creative energy.

During her studies, Sue discovered renowned florists such as Matthew Landers, Joseph Massie, and Flower grower, Craig Scott, whose podcasts became a valuable source of knowledge and inspiration.

Practical Experience That Built Confidence

Pearsons provided multiple work experience opportunities, allowing Sue to work alongside experienced florists in real shop environments. Applying classroom knowledge to real-world situations helped her grow quickly, build confidence, and develop the hands-on skills essential for floristry work.

The Birth of MiSu Roses

One of the biggest milestones in Sue’s journey came in 2025, when she opened her own flower shop, MiSu Roses, in Concord West. She founded the business with her friend Sommy Dasom Park, who also graduated from PFS in 2022. Both women share a deep love for flowers and creativity, and together they created a space where they could bring their visions to life.

MiSu Roses represents more than a business; it reflects Sue’s dedication, courage, and commitment to following her passion.

A Passion for Meaningful Designs

Sue loves creating bouquets and floral arrangements that become heartfelt gifts for special occasions. Now working as a professional florist, she continues to refine her style and explore new designs that bring joy to others.

Navigating the Floristry Industry

Entering a new industry was both exciting and challenging for Sue. At first, the unknown felt overwhelming, but the training, support, and work experience she received through Pearsons gave her the confidence to approach florists, apply for roles, and build meaningful connections. She learned that being proactive and showing genuine enthusiasm is key when seeking opportunities in floristry.

Lessons from the Floristry Floor

Working hands-on in the industry taught Sue how to create balanced, elegant arrangements by focusing on practical skills, placement of all materials, and selecting flowers suited to each occasion. These real-world lessons brought her classroom teachings to life and shaped her style as a florist.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Sue expresses her sincere gratitude to the teachers and team at Pearsons School of Floristry. Their realistic, supportive, and industry-aligned training programs helped her build the foundation she needed to grow creatively and professionally. She credits their guidance as a major influence in her journey and in the creation of MiSu Roses.
