A Day in the Life of a Career Course Student
There’s something truly special about a day in the life of a Pearsons School of Floristry student. Each day is a blend of creativity, hands-on learning, and real-world experience—and today is no exception!
The day begins with a trip to the bustling flower markets, where students select the freshest blooms and essential materials. With their beautiful haul in hand, they head to our light-filled, inspiring School space, ready to bring their floral vision to life.
Through this immersive experience, students not only sharpen their practical and technical floristry skills but also learn to respond to client briefs—preparing them for real-life success in the floral industry.
For this particular project, known as the “Shop Order”, students receive a detailed brief to design an arrangement that meets a specific style and purpose. It’s a chance to think like a florist, plan like a professional, and create something truly special.
Here’s how the day unfolds...
5:30am – Off to Sydney Flower Markets
The day begins early at the bustling flower markets. Students arrive bright and early, ready to handpick the freshest blooms and source all the materials they will need. Always working with colour, texture, and freshness in mind.

6:30am – Trolley loaded; flowers secured
With armfuls of inspiration (and a trolley full of treasures), it’s time to head to Pearsons School!
8:00am – Coffee break!
But first... a quick caffeine stop to fuel the creativity.
9:00am – Arrive at school and check the brief
Back in our beautiful classroom space, students dive into their project brief—reviewing the design style, colour palette, and client expectations.
10:00am – Time to create
Let the magic begin! Students start constructing their floral designs, working with texture, form, and technique.
12:30pm – The final design
A stunning table arrangement comes to life. Every detail considered; every bloom perfectly placed.
1:00pm – Competent and complete
The design is finished— The Floristry Trainer reviews the design, construction and alignment to client brief. The student is deemed ‘competent’. The student signs off feeling proud, accomplished, and one step closer to their floristry career.
This assignment is more than just an assessment—it’s a chance to step into the shoes of a real florist. Our students don’t just learn theory—they live it.
