Certificate III in Floristry or Pearsons Career Course: Which Floristry Course Is Right for You?

Imagine a career where creativity is part of your everyday. At Pearsons School of Floristry, we offer two pathways into the floristry industry: the SFL30115 Certificate III in Floristry and the Pearsons Career Course.

Both courses are designed to help you build practical floristry skills, confidence and industry knowledge. However, they have different focuses and are suited to different career goals.

So, which one is right for you?

Let's break down the difference.

Certificate III in Floristry

The SFL30115 Certificate III in Floristry is a nationally recognised qualification designed to provide students with a strong foundation in floristry, particularly within a retail flower shop environment.

It's a great choice if you're looking for a structured, recognised qualification and want to build the core skills needed to work in a traditional floristry setting.

What will you learn?

The Certificate III program covers a broad range of fundamental floristry skills, including:

  • Floristry foundations and techniques
  • Bouquets and arrangements
  • Wired designs and wearable floristry
  • Funeral and tribute designs
  • Flower care, preparation and handling
  • Customer service and shop-based floristry

The program includes 33 classroom days and 5 days of floristry work experience, along with theory, assessments and self-paced study.

Who is Certificate III suited to?

Certificate III may be the right choice if you:

  • Want a nationally recognised qualification
  • Are interested in working in a retail flower shop
  • Are new to floristry and want a structured learning pathway
  • Want to develop strong foundations in traditional floristry techniques
  • Are looking for a qualification that formally recognises your skills

The course is generally completed over 9 months, although Pearsons offers flexible options for students who wish to fast-track their studies.

Pearsons Career Course

The Pearsons Career Course is our hands-on, industry-led pathway for students who want to explore floristry from beginner through to more advanced and contemporary design.

While you'll still learn all the essential foundations, the Career Course places a stronger emphasis on creative floristry, weddings, events, corporate work and current industry styles.

It's designed for people who don't simply want to learn how to make beautiful flowers, but want to understand how floristry works across a variety of professional environments.

What will you learn?

The Career Course is made up of 5 practical modules, 25 classroom days and 3 days of work experience.

You'll explore:

  • Floristry foundations
  • Bouquets and arrangements
  • Wedding and event floristry
  • Corporate floristry
  • Industry knowledge

You'll also have opportunities to experience the wider floristry industry through elements of the Pearsons Experience, including flower market visits, flower farm visits, guest designers, enrichment opportunities and work experience.

Who is the Career Course suited to?

The Career Course may be the right fit if you:

  • Are a complete beginner
  • Are considering a career change
  • Want to explore your creativity through floristry
  • Are interested in weddings and events
  • Want to work across corporate and event floristry
  • Want to develop contemporary floral design skills
  • Prefer a highly practical, hands-on learning environment

You don't need previous floristry experience to join the Career Course.

So, What's the Biggest Difference?

The simplest way to think about the two courses is:

Certificate III = a nationally recognised qualification with a strong foundation in retail floristry.

Career Course = a practical, industry-led pathway focused on contemporary floristry, weddings, events and corporate work.

Both courses teach you the fundamentals of floristry, but the direction of your learning is different.
