Petals Over Paperwork: Sasha's Journey from Office Desk to Florist Studio

Since graduating, Sasha’s life has taken a bold and transformative turn. With a renewed sense of confidence, Sasha made the significant decision to step away from her corporate career. Something that once felt like the expected path. In its place, Sasha chose to pursue a long-held dream: building a business within a creative industry. While the transition has pushed Sasha beyond her comfort zone, it has also brought her a deep sense of alignment and excitement. The course played a pivotal role in this shift, giving Sasha the belief in her own abilities that she needed to take the leap.

Interestingly, floristry wasn’t always part of Sasha’s plan. Sasha initially envisioned herself climbing the corporate ladder, a path reinforced by those around her. Though Sasha had always enjoyed arranging flowers in her spare time, it remained just a hobby. Over time, however, the lack of creativity in Sasha’s professional life became increasingly difficult to ignore. Recognising her need for creative expression, Sasha began to reflect on what truly brought her joy, and floristry consistently stood out. That realisation marked the beginning of Sasha’s journey into the floral world.

Choosing to study at Pearsons School was a decision shaped by both practicality and passion for Sasha. The fast-tracked, intensive program stood out among other options, offering a shorter, more immersive commitment that suited Sasha’s circumstances. Attending classes three times a week allowed Sasha to fully engage with the learning experience, making it both enriching and rewarding.

Sasha’s time studying at Pearsons School was filled with memorable moments. Sasha formed strong friendships with her classmates, bonding over shared experiences and supporting one another throughout the course. The bright, airy workspaces fostered creativity, while the teaching staff, each bringing unique industry perspectives, were deeply invested in Sasha’s success. This combination created an environment that was both inspiring and supportive for Sasha.

During her studies, Sasha also gained hands-on experience through warehouse duties over the Christmas period. What could have felt like routine work turned into an enjoyable and festive experience for Sasha, complete with carols, themed arrangements, and a sense of camaraderie.

Now, Sasha’s focus is firmly on launching her own floristry business. Sasha is navigating the early stages, handling administrative tasks, securing small jobs, and steadily building momentum. A major milestone for Sasha was completing her first wedding, an experience that both challenged and excited her. Sasha now hopes to use that work to attract more wedding and corporate opportunities within her local community.

Finding work in the industry is still a work in progress for Sasha, but she has discovered the value of starting close to home. Sasha’s friends and family have been instrumental in helping her secure her first jobs, providing both opportunities and encouragement as she builds confidence in her craft.

Since stepping into the industry, Sasha has learned the importance of developing a distinct personal style. Rather than trying to do everything, Sasha has embraced what she loves most: native flowers, rustic foliage, unique vessels, and wild, asymmetrical arrangements. This focus has allowed Sasha’s work to become more refined and impactful, reflecting her authentic creative voice.

For anyone considering a path in floristry, Sasha’s advice is simple: take the chance. Whether or not it becomes a career, it’s a skill that offers lifelong value. Sasha believes floristry provides a therapeutic, hands-on, creative outlet. One that can bring both joy and fulfilment.
